A Promise To My Mother

You required from us no elegy
So I promise in this paragraph
My poems become your epitaph
From all the years of reading youve done
Ive become your writing son
And today I am almost old
I will write it into solid gold
Your blood is the fluid in my inky pen
The spirit of the ages
I will spill on these pages
Until one day I will see you again

A lovely tribute to your mother... I only recently discovered my maternal grandmother wrote poetry as do my elderly aunt and uncle. My mother also wrote but I have never seen her poems... now I know it's in my blood it just took my husband's cancer surgery in 2013 to unleash this creativity in me. :-) hugs Jan xx7

O Jan I am much pleased by your visit being from an eminent poet as yourself. Isnt it strange how it took a shock to unleash our creativity. Mine was locked up till doomsday until I woke up with a jolt. My wish for you is that you can even exceed your previous work. Thanks for the visit

Hi Carol. Thank you and welcome.

I disagree with Keith. "Inky pen" struck me like Shakespeare. Inky is the verb! -- I get the contrast between your mother: "Solid Gold", and you, wielder of an "inky pen". That one word/phrase illuminates the image.

A really good epitaph for your mother. Just a couple of tweaks I suggest: And today as I am almost old Your blood is the fluid in pen Until the day I see you again
