A Promise

He once sat in his cozy chair, A young man at that time. He would share combat stories, His love of fishing, hunting, And camping outings With family and friends he cared. A half-century later, Age and illness decided to reside Within him in that cozy chair. He would look at me with loving eyes, Reminisce of the days he stole my heart. An evening a long time ago, Under the undiluted deepening Orange blaze of a new night sky. Romantically he bent the knee Made a promise to me Amid darken shadows and stars above. His illness won as he faded Into the shadows of the night. I still melt in his embrace With just a glint sight As he still sits In his cozy chair a young man. 6/1/2020
