A Price To Pay

I still think of you everyday
My heart ache just wont go away
Your ghost will never leave my mind
But I have to leave you way behind
If I want to hold my head up high
And be the man I used to be

I still find traces of you
When I close my eyes at night
Sleep comes, dreams awake
I watch you breathing deep
I hear your voice in my sleep
I turn but the wind is all thats there

A chance meeting on a wild beach
I thought love like this was beyond my reach
Bright stars remind me of that night
Conflict of heart put to test
Will my mind ever get some rest
A time together way to short

A trail of ashes in my wake
Precious dreams I did break
Broken rules, three souls must pay
A price to dear for innocence
Turn away from a love felt right
My broken heart the price to pay

Had things been different from the start
Our souls together not apart
What things we would have seen
Every corner of this earth
Our eyes would gaze upon
Holding hands we'd see them all

The hardest thing I've had to do
Was break away from loving you
For two souls I must save
My broken heart the price thats paid
I close my eyes the last I see
Seeing you walk away from me

John, Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@

Hi Linda. Thanks for the kind comment and the welcome to poetry soup. I have never thought about poetry until two days ago and never attempted to write a poem until the day before yeaterday. As you can see I'm going through a bit of emotional turmoil and my life is on its head. Seems like depression brings out something in me. I'm going to look at your poems now. Have a nice day!
