A Prayer of a Lonely Soul
Deepening dusk shrouds my day, O Lord,
as wearily I walk towards my home.
A boring day, problems abound,
not all too easy to solve.
And so I come to you, My Lord,
I come for comfort and wisdom.
For who can help me in this lonely world
unless 'tis You, You alone.
My heart is empty and needs cleansing.
Tired I try to make some sense of things.
Things that remind me of days gone by,
oft repressed in dark nooks of my mind,
things irrevocably lost, ne'er to be found.
Oh Lord teach me to live one day at a time,
keep my old memories under a leash,
let me not think about tomorrow's work,
help me remember that You love me.
For Lord I know not if I love Thee,
I'm so afraid to question my heart,
lest I find how inadequate I feel
as sorrow tends to drown emotions
I should feel only for Thee.
I ask You Lord for mercy, compassion
to an old fool who must face listless life.
I yearn to love Thee more each day
that my heart may burn only for Thee. Amen.
