A Prayer For Mother
I prayed many years ago
For a favor from the Lord.
I asked Him for a special gift
One that I could not afford.
I thought about the blessings
My mother gave to me,
And nothing here on earth
Matched her generosity.
So one night, I laid in bed,
Gazing up toward Paradise.
I asked that He would make for me
A crown, surpassing price.
One bedecked with precious stones;
Of gold and glorious metals.
The finest heaven has to give
That my debt of love be settled.
I believe He heard my prayer
Though God has other, greater crowns
Mine will satisfy my soul’s travail:
To crown her brow as praise resounds.
