Notes About The Poem
A prayer of gratitude, sensory immersion, and spiritual surrender, following a journey from a turbulent past to a grounded present, and finally toward an uncertain future.
A Prayer for Clarity
I sit in the quiet today,
looking back over the map of my life.
I see the person I used to be—
reckless at times, lost in the woods,
holding a dim light against a heavy wind.
Yet even then,
in the darkest stretches I didn't think I'd survive,
Your hands were quietly around me,
keeping me safe from harm I couldn't even see.
Thank You for every version of me that came before.
Thank You for every stumble,
every night of doubt,
and every grace that brought me through to this present breath.
Now, I stand at the very end of the pier,
my feet grounded on sun-bleached, grain-worn wood.
The texture of the ancient boards is rough beneath my soles,
a tangible anchor to this sacred moment.
I look up with my arms outstretched to the heavens,
my open palms reaching toward the vast sky.
The air is warm with the sharp smell of sea salt,
and a gentle wind brushes against my face,
singing quietly in my ears.
Here I am,
alive, protected, and still breathing.
I know I was kept for a purpose.
I know my heart is still beating for a reason.
But if I'm honest, Lord...
I don't know what my mission is anymore.
The fog hasn't cleared,
and I can't see the next step on the trail.
So I am laying down the need to have it all figured out.
Unfold the map when You are ready.
Open the doors I am meant to walk through,
and clear the noise so I can hear Your voice.
My past is safe with You.
My present is Yours.
Show me where to go next,
and I will follow.
