A Poet's Prayer

Bless me
with the fluency of fury
and the articulate voice of anger.
Spare me though,
of its affliction of aggression.

Let my pen paint
the reflection of my thoughts
like a mirror.
Thus my lines become
clones of my imaginations.

Let creativity be
the stubborn shadow
of my verses
and let not inspiration
fly out of my window.

This has always been in my favorite poems, I read it today taking the last two lines as 'inspiration', for mine own has flown "out the window" and is sitting over my head like a dark cloud.:( Love this write, best wishes to you, hugs, Mikki

Jide, I have never read a more fitting prayer for poets. We all try to overcome anger and aggression by releasing our thoughts in verse. I especially liked "let not inspiration fly out of my window." I think that happens a lot at night when ideas for poems race through our heads but the ideas are lost the next morning. Outstanding work! Carolyn

Hi there Jide! My oh my, your "inspiration" can't have flown out the window...I think it's hovering over your head, waiting to be caught by yourself.:) Your work flows on waves of amazing thought and metaphor. Each verse of this poem is a verbal articulation depicting your regard and scrutiny. Very clever Jide! :) Wishing you the best...God's blessings to you and yours. Mikki
