A Poet Is a Bridge

i believe we all
have a poem in our hearts

some need no metaphors

for a poet is a bridge
between words and emotions
connecting hearts and souls
through all four seasons

my heart is not a guesthouse
it's an asylum for the broken
a treasure of memories
of those forgotten

so all the names
written within it
i place into a box
to shelter from storms

as long as there is oxygen
i'll keep them warm

but sometimes I am thunder
because they are like lightening

sometimes it's really frightening

so i curse my heart
for feeling too much
sometimes it curses me
for not forgiving enough

maybe that's why
when they move forward,
i take a step backwards

losing the gravity of my voice

because sometimes i feel frozen
isolated on an unknown island
profoundly pondering
about the equity of love

it's not always fair - if ever

all i ask from these strangers
is to leave their ego at the door
for dishonesty and hypocrisy
disturbs one's tranquillity

from silence of the womb
to darkness of the tomb
some pens remain dormant
some suffer from insomnia

life is not butterflies and lullabies
so i keep writing in the hope
one day someone will understand

continuing to release emotive ink
with a message in each poem

hidden behind metaphors

WoW!!! Such a transcendent poem, SO. The elevation of consciousness it evokes is pulse ethereal. This beautiful poem was written on firmament paper. In essence, it is a celestial gem. In deed, it is a muse pillar in the cosmic realm of Innervision. Thank you for sharing this blessed cerebral ink, my dear friend. Love and peace always.

" leave their ego at the door" - this is all we can ask from our readers, and from ourself also. Nicely penned, my friend. Metaphors hide and mask things forever from me, I am horrible at deciphering them.

A poet has the gift of words and the power to connect them to sentiments and thoughts.. A poet is empowered to assure one of the loftiest missions.. to give voice to those voiceless.. to bring to life "those forgotten".. An inner candle that radiates with light and beauty though melting and burning from the inside.. A mission of Love, though divinely beautiful, it is emotionally exhausting.. A poet is also a bridge for his very torment, pondering, love, pain, isolation and alienation.. achingly inking in great musings what could be said and for a reader to decrypt his similes and metaphors.. Still "there are things that can never be said out loud"! I so much liked and enjoyed your poem.. so many profound thoughts raised wonderfully, Silent One! A great musing and a wonderful song! Best regards and blessings.

Such a talented poet you are S.O, you keep everyone in your heart, but sometime this becomes frightening but you especially, should never worry about your heart not giving enough and further more that you are not forgiving enough - you are the most honest poet I have come across and each of your poems gives us a message - your kindness, honesty, and loyalty to poetry soup is a joy - you are quite right about ego also, it should be left outside the door, many profess they do, but don,t. Your "heart is not a guesthouse, it's an asylum for the broken" That is both sad and soothing, all at the same time. We all encourage and heal, inspire and uplift- in our own way. "life is not butterflies and lullabies" True, but I like to caress those moments as much as possible. My heart likes to linger in the clouds and it shows through my poetry. You are right, "A poet is a Bridge" ~ Brandy
