Hans Heyerdahl Norwegian painter - A Rest 1885
Thirsty for a drink of water, she sits down
on a tree-stump and rests for a while.
A peaceful day of recent dreamy memories,
thoughts that wandered away, as her
father and brother work clearing out the field
around the willow trees for spring planting.
The mild warm weather is getting ready for rain.
The ground is soft and yield nutrients
for the seeds as they grow.
There is still so much to do,
and chores need to be done around the farm.
At the end of the day, they take a breath
and sigh in deeply as they are all worn out.
Silence reverberates through soft idyllic civil twilight.
The scattering sunlight still lights up the sky's vast horizon.
The next morning, they began with morning chores
while mom gets their breakfast ready.
Then wonder off to the field until twilight seduces the night.
A smile on their faces with an inspiring thought;
it will all be worthwhile at the end of a plentiful harvest.
