A Pink Dress
Her little feet ran toward the water,
The mother caught up in her book.
The pink dress flew alongside the wind-
Her face wore a smile.
I promised I wouldn’t intervene.
Her face was shocked at first
As her toes touched the cold,
But she charged on anyway.
Her mother still hadn’t noticed.
...I promised.
She tripped.
Fell-
Head first into the water.
The wave dragged her back
Deeper.
She hadn’t learned to swim yet.
Under the water,
There is no screaming.
Her mother looked up from her book.
No answer.
