Notes About The Poem

A Perfume Bottle

A perfume bottle I'll never forget
Stays in my heart, where its forever etched
It was my eldest sister's first romance
That Christmas to me was heaven enhanced.

We watched as her presents became unwrapped
All us sisters hearts were truly enrapt
Each item had a heavenly perfume
The fragrance simply made our young hearts boom.

I found it the best thing I'd ever seen
Lovely as an enchanting movie scene
First thing I bought with my first pay packet
Beauteous perfume, just had to have it.

Our mom let us spend our first wage, so sweet
After that we had to pay for our keep
I'll never forget that scent, didn't cost much
Was start of a love with a magic touch.

Sentimental. Childhood and sisterhood swirl in fragrant memory, where perfume becomes a symbol of enchantment and first love.

Such a tender and nostalgic piece ,the perfume becomes more than a fragrance, it’s a memory stitched with love, family, and the sweetness of firsts. Beautifully heartfelt. Thank you for sharing this with us.

You have enhanced two lovely images - Christmas and perfume - in your story! Love the way you spin the mystery with anticipation as you wove suspense into your story. I know your L"Air du Temps story, what was your first fragrance? My first fragrance was Blue Grass by Elizabeth Arden. Best wishes for the contest. Blessings of fragrant grace to you.

I visited Woolworths several times whilst in London. Remember those perfume bottles. You did well, Beryl, buying your first bottle. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you Paula, when young us three sisters, two came along later, used to love going to the Woolworths store, there they had sweet bottles of scent in animal shaped bottles, we loved them, such lovely childhood memories, cheap and cheerful they were… Beryl
