A Path To Peace

The forest path
Opens like a portal 
In front of me
As I walk away
From the mundane
Into the magic 
Of nature.

I can almost
Understand
The musical twitter
Of birds
As they flutter
Here then there
In avian busyness.

But birds cannot 
Hurry me along
The sun dappled path
To a meadow
Filled with wildflowers
And fragrance of life
Well lived. 

I think I will
Lay down to sleep
Like Van Winkle 
In the warmth
Of the forest
Then anon awake 
To a world at peace.
