Author's Notes: "A Parable of Love's Spell," is a couplet written as a parable that I just finalized on March 28, 2017. This parable talks to certain wondrous aspects of the eternally famous emotion of "Love," and how they comprise and are integral to the theme notion of "Love's Spell." This, for me, was very much a fun write. It gave me an opportunity to opine a bit about some things from a metaphorical and symbolic perspective that can affect two people when they begin to fall in love or when they are in a loving relationship. "Love" is that inescapable emotion that touches and influences all of us as human beings at one time or another in our lives. (Gary Bateman - March 28, 2017) (Couplet)

A Parable of Love’s Spell We danced and kissed passionately whilst feeling that frenzied, flushed-rush of two people together now as one under love’s spell. Love’s that mystical, magical emotion captivating every aspect of our senses as we succumb to its aura of delicious enchantment! Love’s power is a divine omnipotence which touches us tender now as we walk this night watching the Moon smile back at us. Love’s that moment when two people’s eyes search and discover each other and their hearts know it’s much more than mere chance. Try fate, try destiny, but knoweth that this special emotion is oft beyond the pale of any ready explanation of the mere commonplace. Love can be palpable, spiritual, promising, hopeful, bashful, and even disappointing—but full of surprise and true wonderment too! We savoreth our embrace as two lovers mesmerized in this moment, whilst we fall deeply under love’s spell as the Moon smiles back at us! Love the symbol of the smiling moon, Gary and I can see you put a lot of thought and delight into your wonderment of love in this descriptive poetry.

Thanks Andrea for your very gracious comments here. Yes, it does seem, at times, that the "Moon" has become a very important symbol I use from time-to-time especially in love and metaphysical poetry. I did enjoy putting this particular poem together. Always fun. I'm very pleased you enjoyed it!! Best Always, Gary

Gary, your notes are very valuable - they add to the poem. If there is a "fog of war" then I daresay there is also a "fog of love," and you approach it from several sides, with hearty statement and a classical elegance as well. The moon rises over the possibility of human pain - we cannot escape that - but also over our love, and we are the better for the bargain.

Doug, Thanks very much for your thoughtful comments here and your most interesting discussion of the "fog of love," as it applies to the parable I've written. You last statement presents a perfect analogy to what I was hopeful attempting to articulate with "Love's Spell." I'm quite pleased you enjoyed my poem here!! Best Wishes, Gary

is love a need a want or both, is it the water our hearts search for when its thirsty or is it a deep spring we happen upon, do we find it or does it find us if it finds us worthy...my first thoughts after reading your interesting poetry

Hi Frederic, Thanks for dropping by and for your very enlightening observations here concerning "love." I would profer that all of your "or" thoughts would or could apply to the elusive emotion we know as "love." Any one of your "thoughts" individually are poetic theme notions unto themselves. I really do appreciate your perceptive view here after reading my parable. Best Always, Gary

Hello Mike, Thanks so much for your gracious comments here and for your insightful read of this parable on "Love's Spell." Thanks for the 7/FAVE too!! Love, too, is one of my favorite topics to write about, both in poetry and in short stories. (BTW, I read Mary's radiantly beautiful couplet on "Country Girl" and the co-write you both did on the Poets' Letters. Top Drawer work all around!!) I decided for the future also, to make "The Secret World of Evil" a standalone book since it's a Novella. And, I plan to send you a completed first draft later of a second Novella, entitled: "The Devil's Playground." I would be very interested to get your thoughts on it. Your and Mary's pens shall also always spill the purest gold too!! Best Wishes from Ingrid and me!! Gary

Yes Kim for sure!! "Love" is that inexplicable spark that is very much a mystery. Shall we say a major aspect of that "aura of delicious enchantment"? Best Wishes, Gary

Hi Gary, I loved the poem, and I really enjoy reading your notes, I find knowing the aim of the poet, gives the poem more meaning, I read it first before notes then afterwards to see if I caught more deeper meanings! Very beautifully written!

Hi Arthur, I'm very pleased that you enjoyed my poem here. And, I'm grateful too, for your recognition of my "Author's Notes." I keep these notes for each and every poem I write, as a personal audit trail for me, and to inform the readers who are interested in the "backstory" concerning the development of each poem that I do. This information too, often helps to explain the "whys" and "wherefores" of each poem to the reader, and to jog my memory too in the future when I look at a poem I wrote some time ago. BTW, I'm a very avid follower of your poetry too. I thoroughly enjoy your writes as well! Cheers and Best, Gary
