A Nightly Massacre
The night is reeking with despair,
No moon, or stars at which to stare,
Shadows roam about unseen,
Pale imprints of souls once living,
Everywhere there's a deathly still,
Hungry horrors await their kill,
The town nearby is thick with dread,
For these threats are immune to lead,
Soon screams and cries come all about,
As lives are silently being snuffed out,
Man, woman, child or pet,
None escape the Grim reaper's net,
No blood's been spilled on the ground,
But putrid corpses are all around,
By midnight, moonlight shines once more,
Crickets chirp out by the moor,
Quite whispers of that night spread,
The town was cursed everyone said,
A century past saw a treaty,
That granted an unlikely victory,
Now Old Nick has gotten his due,
A pity no one had a clue,
For no man ever stepped in there,
The smell of death reeks in that lair.
