A New Path

A NEW PATH A new path now together we walk out of the past, A new path bright and lovely with joys that ever last. We’ve shed our tears repenting of what we’ve said and done, And we know God has forgiven and He our hearts has won. If He would send a Savior to die in naked shame For even sins like ours were, then let us praise His name. He did not hold His hand back, refuse the nail to drill; He did not want the gall’s drug to help the pain to kill. He stood in stonelike silence as the lashes tore His skin That we might from our evil find forgiveness here within. An old path up Golgotha Christ walked one dreary day So a new path we could walk on by following His way. Just close your eyes and picture His hanging on that tree, And see Him looking at you to say, “I die for thee.” He died, the price is paid for, and you say, “I believe,” And He becomes your Savior when you by faith receive. He bore what we deserved there--our hell, our punishment; That cross was the whole reason that to the earth He went. That cross has bridged the pathway we sinners walk upon, And when we cross it over, a new path we have gone. Let the cross that bridged that canyon we could not cross alone Be the barrier that blocks out all the things that we have done. It’s standing there, a symbol, of the finished work of God That we’ll have hope of heaven when we’re buried in the sod. Now we walk with Him His pathway, a new path, yes, indeed, But one day streets all golden His hand will down us lead. Oh, what a hope! Let’s sing it! What blessings we will have Walking with Him, forgiven, down a bright, new, shining path!
