A New Newtown

The innocent souls. The little angels flown away. The dedicated. Perished. Agonising. Touching. Demanding answers. A town held in the grip of unfathomable mourning. A world shell-shocked. What next? Some serious soul-searching .A real newness . Country. Community. Newtown, there has to be new paradigm shift. There has to be a new beginning . A dawn of non-violence. An end to a cycle of mass shooting tragedies. A new chapter. A secure future. The sights, the sounds, the terror, the grief. Should people live in fear? Feel helpless , weightless and exposed? No. Innocent deaths of 28 people that touched the hearts of many across the world because we are all the citizens of this world. We therefore demand a world that is safe, habitable , just and peaceful. A world in which the sanctity of life is of paramount importance. Let us contain the emotions and find lasting solutions . Let us find solace in that it is possible to arrest the situation. A newness of love, security and peace must be collectively and individually ushered in. Though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death you WILL not fear no evil. Death you have been defeated. To the parents, teachers, schoolchildren, the community, and the country, the world mourns with you. It shares your grief. Be strong. Be comforted. Our hearts are with you. We offer our prayers.

Yes, my friend, situations such as these are such tragedies! So many people wantonly killed - the teror - the grief! Shocking, shocking, shocking! I agree with you that "A newness of love, security and peace must be collectively and individually ushered in." All the best. Pandita

As a journalist who's docked over 400 hours on Newtown, I am astonished there are still so many unanswered questions with this case. The most intriquing parent of the "lost" is no doubt Robbie Parker. I don't understand how he could not shed a tear for any of the interviews he did for the press. In fact, I have yet to see one tear shed by any of the parents. I know the nation shed many tears. I have an 11 yr old. If it were him in that school, I would have been bawling. PLZ.google Robbie parker.

yes, there has to be a new beginning. I pray it will be so. I was inspired by Obama's speech and I hope God will be with him as he tries to curtail the use of assualt weapons in our country but he has a tough battle ahead of him with the NRA so strong. And of course, in the end, it comes down to the morality of our society. This was very good.

Someone once said, "A loose cannon is someone that runs around causing havoc, with noone able to stop them". l agree with you that the bolts should be tightened on the use of assault weapons . In any given society in general one finds some people who, for no clear or sensible reason suddenly become loose cannons. This then begs for decisive and effective actions around morality, regulations etc. Happy holidays to you and your family!

Thank you ,Lisa Cooper. We are in this together. l have just read Mortals bleed, and l feel it is a very poignant dedication. l think what is more central, at the end of the day, is that both poems are for a good cause.
