A New Day
I watched the day
it came in just after morning light on the bay
eerily dark and spectacular gray;
how wild and restless blew the northeast winds
each a howl upon the trees up down unhinged,
racing hurriedly out to the seas
while on the far set horizon eased
ice-cold rain set upon a winter freeze
with New Year's day,
just another decade away;
the rhythm of the clock tick tocked the minutes into hours
drawn seconds away from the old year's powers
and as the bells rang out so loud, so clear
the crowds below shouted and cheered;
twenty-twenty, a decade too quickly come
with a faint look back to what we've done
and a wonder questioning who we have become.
I watched the day,
the years ticking fast away
what waits beyond this new horizon
I wait patient and hopeful for wise compromising
no deceit, no lies, no fake news, truth at last, rising.
