A Mother's Search

A Mother's Search

Once I had a little boy
 Blonde, blue eyes with a winning smile
 How I loved him-he was such a joy
 Whatever happened to that little boy ?

 Full of spirit, full of fun,
 He couldn't wait for the morning sun
 He loved all things large and small;
 He stole my heart and I stood tall

 And then things changed, I do not know;
 Was it me or just a seed he chose to sow ?
 He broke my heart like a shattered toy
 Whatever happened to that little boy ?

 A mother's love should prevail you say,
 Like all other days I ache today
 All sorts of answers I have sought to employ
 Whatever happened to that little boy ?

 And now his sons are growing up, and
 I sit back and watch the cup that's overflowing with joy
 Perhaps someday I'll know the story
 Of whatever happened to that little boy
