A Mother's Day Sonnet

A mother's true intention one day blooms When her child gives birth in glad growth of time To revel in her grandchild's feathered plumes Soon to mature just like her child, sublime. As grandchild leaves the nest in fettered flight Her mother too will feel the somber pain That will not lessen loss felt day and night Until her child adds to kin once again. Then, only then, will daughter understand How raising up a precious child from birth With love and caution tended by her hand, In letting go, she will endure on earth The joys of becoming a Granny too, And Mother's Day will triple in her view! 4-2-19 Happy Mother's Day to all

A fitting tribute to motherhood and the extension of the family tree from one branch to the next. So many times we parents look at our kids and think, "someday you will understand what I'm feeling". When they reach that point, what a connection! Blessings, dear Connie.

Excellent! The letting go while holding on in our hearts! We only pay for our upbringing when we have a child of our own. Well done!

What a wonderful poem about a mother/ child relationship and a granny/grandchild relationship - the Greeks have a saying, that a grandchild is twice your child ! This is a fave. for me. Absolutely wondrous! Hugs, Jennifer.

They never fully appreciate us until they have to let go of their little ones. "only then, will daughter understand How raising up a precious child from birth With love and caution tended by her hand, In letting go, she will endure on earth" Well done Connie. Incredible!
