A Mother's Cry

This is just a dream Sleep my little child Don't open your eyes Heed my advice This is not the truth This is just a mirage Shadows lurking in your room Are just a facade Listen to your mother Please don't open your eyes You'll be beguiled by others With their enormity of lies Why can't you sleep Can't you hear your mother weep I won't let your essence Be taken by corrupt fiends Oh, I see you opened your eyes But it's not too late Your mother will protect you Till her last day

Aah, how we deeply wish to protect our children from the horrors of life! A life- long project, and loving to them...but a difficult one, life is not kind to the vulnerable. A beautifully expressed scene, and the change of direction in the last stanza is very effective. :-)

I am a fan of Pink Floyd myself- their music is amazing! To be honest, Rishabh, I dont count myself as being one of the good poets here- and like you, I have learnt a great deal from being here. I had written poetry for about fourty years, kept it to myself, it was a needed form of self expression. Writing helped me formulate whatever I was going through at the time. Reading famous poets, and looking for the whys and ways they wrote, has been educational for me too. Dont be afraid to experiment with rhyme, rhythm, styles. Take one form, practice it, until it becomes natural to use, what you want to do with the poem, is a great idea! I'll stay in touch...

Thank you :). I was thinking of this as a two-part poem based on Pink Floyd's Mother with child's response after this. I read your latest poem and was amazed. If you have any advice for me on improving my writing, I'd be glad to receive. I liked the line- Life is not kind to the vulnerable :)
