A Morning of Reflected Light

This was a morning of reflected light
Off the tea cups
Dangling from the cupboard hooks
While down the hall
Several voices in conversation could be heard
Around an old breakfast table
In a country kitchen

This was a morning of reflected light
That returned youthful memories
From when as a child
The smell of coffee and hot buttered toast
Seemed to permeate the air
Smells
That have since thinned through the years
Along with voices in the old tongues

This was a morning of reflected light
That played off the old read books
That lined the shelves
That covered the walls
That were no longer read

This was a morning of reflected light
That danced on five dusty guitars
And off the hands of an old musician
Who enjoyed the music
That was no longer played

This was a morning of reflected light
And for all its sadness
The memories it allowed
Made it a most wonderful morning
