A Moment In Life
There was a moment when my future was set
No crystal ball, I was no pshysic, and yet…
At twenty-one diagnosed with PKD**
Instinctively knew what my future would be.
Knew my kidneys would fail around forty-eight
Until then I’d grab life, for fun could not wait
There’d be no children, I would not pass it on
I’d clear every hurdle until all hope was gone.
I was not afraid of what might be in store
A life filled with sorrow? No, love and much more
A career filled with friends, accomplishments too
At that moment in time, somehow, I just knew.
A moment in life can give one clarity
Mine opened my eyes to what I was to be!
** PKD = Polycystic Kidney Disease. An inherited
dominant gene sometimes passed from parent to child.
Mine came from my father.
