A Moment

I lay next to you- the glow of the morning light sneaking through a break in the blind. Lighting your body a serene brown. I watch as you sleep... never knowing how much I saw of you, how much I knew of you. My heart tore, bled on the sheets, wet under your back. The lone candle’s flame flickered. Surrendering to the orange glow of the morning- Overcome. My still eyes damp, dead. Realizing how much I lost you, I reach out to touch your shoulder. Run my finger down the curve of your spine. Thought to lean in and whisper "I love you"...one last time. That moment life allowed to stand still- I let forever pass me by.
