A Missed Opportunity
I hurried home and wrote it down
The best poem written yet
But exactly where I put it then
I seem to now forget.
And once the rhyme was written down
Out of my mind the meter flew
I can’t recreate this masterpiece
Where I put it, I wish I knew.
This was the one to win me fame
A Pulitzer prize at least
Pure genius never before achieved
On which your eyes should feast.
I looked everywhere with much despair
But the poem cannot be found
I know it’s absurd but take my word
With this verse my fortune was bound.
If I did it once I can do it again
Write the best poem in history
So I sat down with pen in hand
And got this stupid poem out of me.
