A million diseases

In the mortal realm, a million diseases lurk Each one poised to kill a man The ache of longing for distant dreams Neglecting the near for a pitiful mirage The boil of lust, yielding to flesh Forsaking the path of chastity The fever of impatience, rushing to doom While salvation stands on a steep hill Awaiting careful tread In the mortal realm, a million diseases lie Each one eager to claim a man The irritating groin of procrastination Slowing his journey to success The strain of distraction, hampering his focus The shivers of failure, halting his steps In the mortal realm, a million diseases dwell Yet man hopes to die Of the bruises from fighting for what's right Of burns from the flames of progress On the journey to fulfillment If he falters, if he fails He hopes to die with his diseases vanquished Not in surrender, but in battle to the end
