A Matter of Perspective

The many forts I’ve helped to build
will not go down in history.
Instead of warriors, these were filled
with grandkids. Creativity
with household items was the key.

With five chairs draped in king-size sheets,
fat pillows, and a few small toys,
they played, took naps, and munched their treats—
proof positive some girls and boys
are happy with life’s simple joys.

I’m fascinated by the sight
of castles in an ancient land,
but I must say I most delight
in those kids build with warm, wet sand
or little toy bricks, Lego brand.
