A Man and His Life
In the lives of those whose memories are cradled in destruction
comes a time when such memories are forgotten and the passage
of time brings a new birth and such things become distant.
One such story shall never be forgotten, whether through time
or generations. His name was Fernando and this is his story.
The red sun cut slowly like a dull knife across the snow covered
mountains of his life. His name is Fernando, he's from the town below.
He escaped to these mountains ten years ago after soldiers from
the Mexican Army raped and murdered his wife. Her name was
Annamaria, she taught school in the town.
For many years he has fought in these mountains and now finds
himself alone except for his son Ricardo who was nine when they left.
Resting in pain from a bullet that struck him in the back, he lays
against a snow covered rock praying to stay awake, afraid he
is going to die from loss of blood or shock. It's Ricardo who stayed
while the others left and now wipes the blood from his face.
As the night turns cold Fernando tells Ricardo to leave and
save himself, so he can continue the fight.
Fernando's thoughts flash to the many years spent killing
as many soldiers he could find.Stealing their gold or personal
riches, giving them to the people of his home town.
He relives the last moments his wife was alive before she was
raped and murdered. The last touch of her blood coated face
the blood soaked hair, the way her last breath felt as she died
in his arms. The rage he felt as he killed the three soldiers who
had done this terrible thing to his beloved Annamaria.
The rising sun awakens him from his thoughts and begins
to warm his flesh. It's the last thing he ever saw, a crack from
a rifle sent a bullet through his skull, causing his death. The
soldiers who had killed him left him for the wolves. He is free
now to wander eternity with Annamaria. As for Ricardo, he
slipped away into the night to continue the fight. His cries of
anger will be heard for years through out the mountains and
every so often a donkey will wander into the town filled with
gold and riches, no one spoke of this to anyone outside the town.
