A Loving Exchange

Today a little lesson, don't ever say never I declared
I haven't heeded my own advice
Not so long ago in a poem that I wrote
                              I expressed those very words

I declared that I would only ever
                               use the form of rhyme
But this poem I've now attempted
only seems to fit the form of free verse

Today a fun filled happy morning
at a craft group gathering in a local park
There's a man in his eighties
                                  who just sits and knits
Another man in his seventies
                                 he just observes and sits

Gathered there are women
who use a crochet hook to weave fabric patterns
There's a lady who sews fascinators. iI you are into horse racing
you may understand what this this term means
My contribution to this group, I craft music
play guitar and harmonica also sing . Also read my poems

What's so very special about this crafting group
there's a broad range of age like a big happy family
From babies to three years old
to the man who's eighty two

There is often many children with their mums
who come and join the group
They receive their education at home
two home schooled boys and two girls are here today

One home school boy age maybe seven or eight
sits on a rug for perhaps an hour
He gently taps his leg in time
to the music that i play

Finally I ask him what do you call yourself
Sylas his eyes and face light up just a tad
I reach out with my harmonica without a word
                                  he accepts begins to experiment

Relaxed I sit and observe
as this young man continues to play
My next suggestion would he like to try my guitar
keenly in the affirmative he nods his head another gentle smile

He eagerly sits upon my chair
I place the guitar across his knees
Both guitar and harmonica it's his first time
he sits strumming for half an hour

Its time for him to leave I say goodbye
                                    I tell him he's a beautiful boy
Still no words but the biggest
most gentle smile of the day

I treasure this exchange few words no material presents
a frequency of love so freely available when we open up the heart

Footnote: For those not familiar with horse racing a fascinator is a decoration that is worn on a women's head when attending horse racing events . A fashion item. I think prizes are awarded
for the best fascinator on the day of racing They come in many shapes . Fascinating
