A Long, Long Night
A Long, Long Night
Dr. James E. Martin

Early that evening I chose to retreat
To a pleasurable lengthy slumber.
My ritual that I did oft repeat
Was to “dial” the “long siesta” number.
I found, however, to my surprise
That “number” was nowhere to be found.
Undoubtedly I did wrongly surmise
That it could quickly and easily be found.
My evening meal of onions and such,
Was surely tasty at the time.
At bedtime, however, it was way too much,
It was impossible to comfortably recline.
Tossing and turning was granted to me
For hour after gruesome hour.
A restful night was not to be
It was nowhere within my power.
