A Little Tune Played In My Head
A little tune played in my head
And it was keeping me from sleep,
Just as I was dropping off
Back that little tune would creep.
It was not a tune I recognized
An unfamiliar, pointless air,
But round and round my mind it went
Driving me to near despair.
Eventually I nodded off
But the morn arrived all too soon,
As I lay there half asleep
Again I heard that wretched tune.
Its constant presence irritated,
Its endless playing vexed me so,
Despite fervent prayers, and distraction,
The dreaded tune refused to go.
That night I had a little drink
I drank much more than one or two,
It's amazing how that tune improved,
After I had downed a few!
