A Lil' Nip

Son, please don't look at me with that cold stare and judge me when I twist the cap, pour a glass, and tilt my head gently.

Just know that I'm searching for a little relief and peace of mind. Unfortunately, in this world, peace can be hard to find.

No excuses! But life has a strange way of unfolding in all kinds of ways. It's going to test you, tempt you, beat you down, and humble you every day.

So, bolster up, my boy, and get to know the Most High. As you go through life, you’ll see and feel some unpleasant things, I won’t lie.

But there are also many beautiful things, like you. So always stay genuine, treat people right, and stay true.

I stayed away from the funny cigarettes, pills, powder, and needles. I'm not proud of my lil' nip, and I pray to the Most High that you never get involved in any of that as you face life's riddles.

So, son, don't look at me with disdain when you see me take a lil' nip. Just know I'll be back, but for now, I'm taking a quick lil' trip.
