A Letter To God

Break my wings if the need be,
That I may never without You fly;
Oh why should You let me flee
To my own doom to quickly die?!
Please, help me the truth to know
That I am nothing without You
--That this world is a vain show
Of what is most far from true.
If the path on which I daily tread
Is one with damnation laden,
O, let your mercies in its stead
Roll away every of its burden.
For this I write is my one request:
Grant it Lord; give my soul rest.
