A Letter On the Desktop

My parent left me their home when they passed, in much needed-repair. I restored the attic into an office, hugging bookcases against the walls. Aging darken ember, creaking wood floor that had been left bare. A musty odor still lingers in the old leather bound books. I'll always have both my parents in my heart and will preserve my mother's looks and will keep them there 'til my days are few with often recalls. Behind my desk hardly concentrating, silently sitting focused on a letter I found in an old book. The letter was addressed to me, from my mother. I can see her knitting the words, "When God gave you to me He knew I would need you, Shaw." The musty odor of the letter prickles my nose as I draw it up closer to read. I miss her and the times we spent together. 5/10/2018
I couldn't resist to place a letter my son wrote and posted on Facebook for Mother's Day Bo Roper? to Eve Roper 5/13/2018 • Happy Mother's day to the most amazing sweet kindhearted woman I know. You have been through so much in life and you have always been a rock. You stay strong for others not just for yourself because what matters to you the most is everyone else around you. I have never seen a bigger heart like yours and no matter if someone takes advantage of it you never stop being who you are and I have always admired that about you. Love you Mom more than anything and I know having to put up with me and your other son's sometimes is not the easiest I thank you for everything that you have been for us. Love you Mom Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Lovely reminiscing, Eve. I liked the enjambment you did in the second stanza. It shows maturity in one's writing I think. Good luck in the contest. I am hoping Laura likes Big Bang Theory

Lovely verse Eve, I know that musty odor you have so well described...I have recently found an old recipe hidden in a book that had the same smell. It was written to me from my mother over thirty years ago before she had passed...Enjoyed this one...Stay well...Charlie
