A Lesser Man Would Defeat

    Archaic, outmoded,
      ‘gauche,’ obsolete

    O, the invective employed
      a lesser man would defeat

Yet unintimidated, he held his ground
for he knew his principle was sound

Adam viewed the fish, the animals, the birds
(paired up so nicely, he perceived)
Then, whoosh! out rushed his shocking words

'Please, for a partner with whom to conceive
I request MY complement, a lady named Eve'

Courage and strength are those that stand alone in their conviction against the current and tide of humanity. You have to live with yourself and your sincere beliefs matter to you and I. Not relenting to majority opinion but sticking to ones own truth. Such a poignant realization Gershon. Thank you for sharing my friend...

I well known story resold. Poor Eve never got the chance to be single. We are still washing dishes and cleaning house. Lol.

Hilda, sad but true we still do the cleaning. Of course, I have known some men who do a lot of the housework to help out. I did not marry one that would help very much though. Sara

A fun write, GW, but lucky for us all that he didn’t request a Laddie named Evan.

Hum, I may be mistaken, but, as I recall, no where in the Bible (JD Version) is stated whether Eve was a Babe or not? Hum, I guess if she was the only female in the garden.... Safeway had apples, 50 cents a piece this weekend. No, I did not buy any...principal favors abstinence even if free. Nice one, Gershon.

Give us time, John. Give us a little time. How old is the universe?...

Hello Gershon, I liked how you celebrate the raw courage it must take to stand by our convictions and express our true desires. Even if they are viewed as unconventional or outdated by others. Your poetic prowess stands true and shows such a boldness that can lead to finding our true complement or fulfillment. Well Inked! - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Well, if I am not for myself, who will be for me? ... But if I am only for myself, what am I? ...

Ahhh!! I nice one, but it was God's idea and not Adams. God supplied all that man needed and then man decided to go his own way. Sometimes we forget God, but God never forgets us. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. Sara K
