When my days and nights have crumbled to dust and the green canopy has become bare when I have fallen to the earth's cold crust I shall perish and not even time will care as I plunge slowly to the earth's domain where my decayed brown flesh is then entombed with dead leaves scattered through the wood's terrain to fill the air with stagnant scents consumed through all the seasons of the year I go summer's green to autumn's crown to turn brown this change of color comes in silence, slow to share with me though brief a golden crown I wish my crown would last throughout the year though it grows dim as winter's winds come near
