A Leaf in the Woods
The golden leaf descends the autumn air,
To dance upon the forest’s mossy floor,
It leaves the mighty oak that held it there,
And flies where silent birds no longer soar.
A coat of summer green it used to wear,
When gentle suns would kiss its velvet face,
But winter strips the fading branches bare,
And stealing cold invades this quiet place.
It sinks into the dust of heavy earth,
To fade away beneath the bitter frost,
Yet dying soil prepares a sudden birth,
Where nothing in the woods is truly lost.
Though withered life must fall into the clay,
The sleeping seed awaits a brighter day.
