A leaf falls
a dry leaf fell, consigned to dust
it knew life flows on as it must
it had no desires to fulfil
ways of God it hand learnt to trust
having fully surrendered will
easy was soul’s ascent uphill
being from dark desires unchained
heart was at peace, blissful and still
another leaf fell, its soul stained
detachment in heart, not ingrained
desire caused it to be reborn
that it may be slowly retrained
oh hermit, unless ego’s shorn
we ourselves subject soul to scorn
knowing not light of God within
heeding not call of love’s bliss horn
