A King's Son

A king’s son he was
And a king himself became,
With no more qualifications
The country’s crown now wears
On his empty head,
Without shame!

It is hard to believe, but some don't deserve the title, yet they think they do. Thanks for sharing... Lucilla

Great humor that you have presented in this one..I am sure that many have ruled from time to time who did not have what it takes to rule a people..There have been some great rulers in history both male and female..Someday though the greatest ruler ever will reign on this earth and it will be an honor to be his subject..Thanks for the visit to my page..Sara

Dear Sara, apart from being humorous at first sight, it has a hidden meaning: That many people, not only kings, inherit positions in every walk of life that do not deserve and because of that society as a whole suffers. As for the great ruler you are referring to, I too, will feel honored to be HIS/HER subject! Thank you!

Very profound, Demetrios. Inherited crowns are often found on "empty" heads. Quite a thought-provoking poem. (You look very handsome in your photo.) Best wishes, Carolyn

Thank you dear Carolyn for your visit and superb and generous comment! As far as my looking handsome is concerned, the explanation is easy: It is the reflection of your beauty upon my image that makes me look so!

Oh, my dear poet...this is true of many. Royalty goes by lineage and not by wisdom. What a superb write. Kalimera....
