A Kernel of Truth
There's more darkness than there
will ever be of light
Look at how the stars
freckle the sky at night
easy to stay outside the circle
of the light around the flame
black shades the space so I don't face
the sorrow in the shame
the universe, a night shadow
dark with distant spots of glow
evening the flow of my nature
I cant see, no more to know
vision always seeks all
that's caste in a ray,
provides knowledge, and so, insight
now seize the day
but the shine is too much
for the nocturnal
gleaming a little, thus too much
of my truth inside its kernel
so I wait for dusk to settle
calming craze so I can be
the parts of myself I love
covers enough so I feel free
the universe, a night shadow
dark with distant spots of glow
evening the flow of my nature
I can't see, no more to know
put your flashlight down
unless to want to see inside my smile there's a frown
a sadness greater than the day
of a truth that can't handle a light that just might stay
