A Hidden Love

Her indifference was merely a facade Tears fell inside with each shovel of sod They buried him on a sunny Spring day She stared at the hole in an offhand way There was no stopping the rush of the past That flowed through her head from first to the last She'd been a child as he first lived next door Her love was hidden - she learned to adore He was some older but she loved him still Knowing that with time all the gap would fill She hadn't counted on a foreign war Her true love was drafted and sent afar They sent him away with a hero's tag And welcomed him home in a body bag She stood in silence and prayed to her God Her indifference was merely a facade August, 2016 For contest Camouflage Me A Poem Rhyme scheme AABB,CCDD,EEFF,GGHH
