A Heart Speaks
Last night love came knocking at my door,
Naked, blind, seeking solace, catching me unaware,
Seeking to invade my empty shell.
So long had I been desolate, afraid,
I struggled in utter defiance to shut him out...
But he pushed, and shoved, against my shallow walls
In his unabashed, willful way
Until I cautiously let him in.
He built a fire and quelled my fear
Until my blood flowed fast and warm
And soon I offered him willingly
The shelter for which he longed.
No vacancy sign now adorns these walls
Since I dared to answer true love's call
When he persistently knocked at my door
And stayed to live with me.
