A Happy Nation
We are glad to be in the audience
when someone stands up and tells a lie
that is why weddings and funerals
are so very popular.
We are glad it is not us giving the speech.
We are glad to watch someone fall
a fat person or a teenager or
a pretty young girl in a short dress.
Thankful not to be the one getting up
with a bleeding knee.
.We are glad when we drive by some poor joker
on the side of the freeway with a flat tire.
Glad we bought the expensive Michelins.
We are glad at work
when we get a raise that we don’t deserve.
Glad to have the extra money.
We are glad to sing hymns in the church
from a hymnal.
Glad that there is rock-en-roll on the radio
on the trip home.
We are a very happy nation –
a glad people.
