A Handful of Stars: a Collaboration With Mary Jo
A handful of stars
As dusk arrives and the shadows grow
All is quiet as the stars begin to glow
A gentle breeze over the hollow begins to rise
And the grass sways under the clear skies
It dances to an ancient rhythmic beat
Calling forth a song solitary and sweet
A Cricket, its voice rises in the dark
The evenings answer to the mornings Lark
Into the dell floats a single wisp of light
A flame that dances through the dark night
Dancing through fields lil' auburn haired girl.
Frilly lil' dress and long beautiful hair in curl.
Collecting her fireflies in a mason jar to light the way.
An angel’s voice she sings a sweet song while at play.
She giggles and smiles with a soft southern country grace.
As she gazes in the jar and the glow lights up her lil' face.
Proudly she skips back with her prize to her family cabin of log.
As she's greeted by the wagging tail of her faithful old hound dog.
A collaboration with my dear friend MARY JO HOOSE
Based on a beautiful memory from her childhood.
