A Habit Is Forever
A sunbeam from the morning light
squeaked through the window blind
Landing on my sleeping eyes
and nudging them real kind
The thoughts of hot brewed coffee
gently stirred me to get up
Pushed me toward the kitchen
to prepare that "precious" cup
As aroma drifted noseward
I showered and I shaved
Scrambled eggs for breakfast
Oh yes - that's what I craved
I dressed up in my "working" suit
shirt and tie so neat
A big impression I would make
on the people that I'd meet
Drove to work so cheerfully
even all the lights were green
Flowers - smiling butterflies
filled all the flora scene
Parked the car as usual
then walked to suite 202
Smiled at all my awestruck friends
as each came into view
The phone began a ringing
The BOSS said - "Come my way"
Then looked me squarely in the eye
and said
YOU RETIRED - YESTERDAY
