A Greeting of Sorts

a greeting of sorts

a hops vine reaches
in a rag tag mop
for the top of my green roof
stretches sticky stems
grasps the old tv tower

carries its children arrayed
in layered green skirts
inch inch along the porch rail
wind twine hold the house together
her zest for life amazes me

each spring she begins again
from beneath the earth
following a path unseen
I talk to her, "hello mother"
she replies, "still here I see"

One old friend greeting another...one of the blessed charms of a long life -- It should not be any other way! You have the enviable ability to make everything sound so elegant, Patricia. My warmest wishes -- to help warm you this chill Autumnal night! :) john

That vine and I had a close feeling for each other. She was a bit peppery and sari in nature but a hard worker and good mother. I loved her.
