A Goddess

through the ether 
she appeared

A Goddess
attended by herons 
the softest light pours
from her eyes
flamed by the embers  
of her heart

loving without knowing
caring without seeing 
a voice for those 
without freedom, 
the answering cry
from the dark,
nobody else hears

cresting Great Rivers, 
Buck-eyed Demigods  
genuflect at her feet

she is worshiped
this Brilliant Goddess

and today 
is her Birthday
