A Future Here Now

One moment he was alive; the next he was dead Gunned down midst a gang war, a bullet in his head No motive whatsoever, nor rhyme nor reason at all Only alienation and desperation casting their dark pall Over an act so unspeakably wanton and cruel It incinerated once and forever all Laws and Rules--- Society's fabric pierced, penetrated, shattered and rent As mourners paid clumsy tributes, broke down and went Home to a future that now felt so grim and so bleak A Future of ambulances clanging and sirens' shrieks A Future here Now on countless sidewalks of slums Where murder's a hero, law and order a bum

If people would just work together for the greater good; this would be a thing of the past. We all must do our part, in our own little corner of this world to guide and assist those in such situations and areas. Thanks Gershon for making us think again about what's important. Well done.

I can identify with this honest look at the hopelessness the poor in our country face. They must drop out of school to try to work. Then someone comes along offering a fast way to get money, rather it be selling drugs or robery, or joining a gang. Part of the answer is to teach a trade in high school that leads to a job of their interests. Contd.

We need to focus on the subjects that will help them most in the society they live in. Dance or chorus keeps many from joining gangs by giving kids who feel lost as sense of family. Of course sports too. Kids now days spend so much money on college and then can't find a job. I come from humble beginngs and know a little about the hardships. Excellent poem Gershon! ; )

Gershon, your social commentary is sadly beautiful in its moving expression of violence running rampant in a broken society. You shine a poetic light on this harrowing plight with your amazing verses. Warmest wishes always my fiend.. ~Susan
