Marilyn Williams Poet Blank verse

A Friend

What is it we look for to find a friend?
Do they have to be similar in character to me? 
Or do they need to be just my opposite?
Do they need to have a kind heart,
or a little devil in their souls?
Are they to be perfect or flawed to be my friend?
Would I be remiss in my search, if they
were not as I'd hoped?
But just the right touch for our
friendship to become one.
This is the kind of friend,
I need to have as one.
