A Football Memory

Just like football* i am very old
so if I may be so bold
this memory I'll unfold

each day,when school was out
off to a green,hereabout-
the teams often numbered seventeen!

with our jumpers as posts,
no boots ,referee or
coaches ,you'd see

back and forth we'd be
'til tired out,and ready for tea

*you call it soccer over the pond

Yes, many people over here in the U.S. do not know of the difference in names. I love American football but the love and devotion Europe (as well as other countries) has for their football is second to NONE! I have been known to use soccer as a tool in teaching form poetry. Sounds weird, I know, but the kids are very visual. I do respect your passion for the forms. I think it is urgent to pass this passion along to future generations so poetry (and art) live FOREVER! I like your sketches too!
