A Fool's Folly

I gave you my tears, my joy, my dreams,
in return you gave me lies.
I waited in the darkest places,
in a place where true love dies...
False memories fuel forbidden fires,
moments that meant so little.
A promise that never came to light,
an emotion all too brittle.
I gave you more than you deserved,
showed you more than you ever earned.
In the end I only felt the pain,
And devotion foolishly spurned.
Yet somehow I forgive you,
though trust is forever broken.
I'll never give you my heart again,
those words will never be spoken.
My deepest regret, the wasted years,
that belonged to someone else.
Though still blind, I see so clearly,
That you were never worthy...

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I had to experience this to write about it. Someone I loved for nearly half of my life turned out to be someone I actually never knew. But again, writing it was part of the healing process. James
